More Videos

I have decided to slowly revamp the video section on this blog. Eventually it will all be sorted well and contain all sorts of interesting things that you can procrastinate for hours watching, getting lost in the future when you’re bored with the present. For now here’s a nice new video from “Russia 2045” (the video will explain who they are, or you can go to 2045 is often the date people ascribe to the singularity, though interestingly enough the video and website never uses the word “singularity.” Anyway, here it is:

Did you notice that:

-the narrator says we are moving forward into the depths of the stars and “the infinite universe of our inner world”?

-they used the phrase “neo-humanity” instead of “post-humanity”?

-that spiritual development is seen as the focus of progress?

-that the avatar is shown dancing in nature?

-that the predictions end in after 2045?

from the predictions in the video, it really seems like the singularity will truly have happened before 2045, that all of the crazy things we can imagine will happen in 30 years or so. What happens after that is pretty much impossible to say.

About Prometheus

I write about the coming technological singularity and its implications for our sense of identity, individuality, meaning, and existence. I argue that the most significant aspect of the singularity is the convergence of our consciousnesses into one superconsciousness, and that we should be very happy about this.

  1. Interesting video Prometheus, but it leaves me with a number of questions.

To start, the whole emanating from Russia to sweep the world reminded me of the old Soviet fantasy- This meme must run pretty deep in Russian culture.

The video presents us in a current and building crisis which technology is supposed to cure.
Why this assumption? There is no reason to believe that the era before the singularity won’t be incredibly violent and destructive. Why wont technology actually exacerbate our crisis as it seems to be doing now?

How do we deal with an era when not only human labor but human intelligence has become superfluous?

How do we deal with the fact that some people will have access to these technologies, when others- especially the third world will not? Those left behind might be consider a whole different, and inferior, species and how do we deal with that?

How do we deal with the billions of traditionally religious people who might resist any such transformation in the human condition?

The video makes the singularity seem like a choice. If it is a choice, we should think through it implications before we rush headlong into a black hole.
